Humboldt penguins

In Jyllands Park Zoo we have a small group of humboldt penguins. The name Humboldt comes from the German scientist who first saw the penguins.

On the west coast of Chile, the Humboldt penguin populations are so large that their dried remains creates a thick layer on the rocks called guano. When Humboldt penguins have to build nests, the male digs a hole in the guano where the eggs are laid. The female lays 2 eggs, and if there is enough food during the breeding of the upbringing, they will both survive
