Our armadillo - the six-ringed armadillo - is one of 13 species of armadillos. It originates from South America and is an excellent digger. It lives on grasslands and in the forests where it digs its caves. It also uses the claws to dig for prey such as insects and plant roots. The armadillo have a poor vision but have an excellent sense of smell, which helps it find the carrion that it also eats.
