The dwarf caiman is the smallest crocodile species. It lives in the rainforest of South America.
The breeding care of reptiles is rarely seen, however, this does not apply to crocodiles. The female but also the male can help build a nest consisting of a pile of mud mixed with decaying plant parts, under which the female lays the eggs and subsequently guards it. When the eggs hatch, the cubs emit sounds and summon the female, who digs youngsters free and helps them down to the water
