The pelicans in Jyllands Park Zoo are pink-backed pelicans, which is one of the smallest of the 8 pelicans species. However, they still weigh approx. 5 - 7 kg and has a wingspan of 2.5 m.
The species lives in Africa and breeds in colonies of 20 - 500 pairs. It lives on fish and amphibians, but prefers to live by fresh water, and is therefore rarely seen at sea.
